Scan a profile code

Every Gasper profile has a QR code. Show yours or scan a friend's in person to open their profile and follow them, with nothing shared but the profile link

Every profile on Gasper has a code, a QR that opens that profile when scanned. Show yours, or scan someone else's, and a tap later you are following them.

The details

Show your code from your profile. The other person opens the scanner, which says "Point at a Gasper code", your profile opens on their phone, and they tap Follow. Then swap. If either account is private, the follow becomes a request to approve, and the button reads "Requested" until you answer.

The code is tied to your profile, not to any ranking, and it carries nothing but the pointer. Scanning it shows what your profile already shows, under whatever privacy settings you have set. A stealth rank is still in your rankings there; a private account still needs approval.

When it is useful

At a screening, on a couch, in the lobby after. It is faster than spelling a handle and more private than contact matching, because nothing from either phone goes anywhere except a profile link.

If you run a film club, have everyone scan each other on the first night. Follow lists fill, the feed fills, and the first argument about which film was scarier starts the same evening. The next week, everyone ranks the same film separately and the feed shows four different scare scores for one screening, which is the point.

Finding friends from contacts is the other route. Feed and friends covers what following gets you, and the ranking with friends guide covers what to do once you are connected.

Related questions

Does scanning share any data?

No. A code is a pointer to a profile and nothing else.

Can someone follow me by scanning if my account is private?

They can send a request, which you approve or ignore.

Do I need the camera permission?

Scanning uses the camera, so iOS asks once.
