Which was scarier?

That is the whole flow. Log a film, say how scary it was, answer a few head-to-heads, and it lands in your rankings with a scare score built from your picks.

  1. Logfrom the Rank tab

Log the film you just survived.

Search a film to rank, or take it from your watchlist or what is new this season. Every film page shows the Community Scare and the percentage who loved it before you add your own.

    1. Find the filmTap the Rank tab, the plus in the middle of the tab bar, and it asks "Watch any movies recently?" Search any horror film, or pick from New this season and your Watchlist. Film data, posters, trailers and where to watch come from TMDb.
    2. Or tap Rank on a film's pageEvery film page has a Rank button, and so does the daily pick card. A film that is not out yet says so and waits.
  2. How scaryfirst, a gut answer

    How scary was it?

Terrifying, Some scares, or Barely flinched. This decides which of your films it is compared against and the range its score can land in, so a film that terrified you never ends up below one that did not.

    1. Pick an answerA quick gut answer, not a number. Terrifying is nightmare fuel, Some scares is a few good jolts, Barely flinched is slept fine.
    2. Anything to remember?A review, who you watched with, tags like Jump scares or Slow burn, the Loved this? heart, and Stealth mode to keep the rank off the feed.
  3. Head-to-heada handful of times

    Which was scarier?

Two posters. Tap one, or drag toward the scarier one. Each answer narrows where the film sits among the films you gave the same answer, and it usually takes a handful of comparisons.

    1. Answer honestlyYou are only ever comparing a film with films you have already seen, so your answers are consistent with yourself.
    2. Added to your rankingsThe film takes its place among everything you ranked and gets a scare score out of 10, one decimal, shown in skulls. Before five ranked films the number is blurred.
  4. Loved iton the result screen

    Loved it? Say so.

A film you adored that barely made you flinch keeps its honest scare score. Tap the heart on the result screen and it is marked as loved, so it shows up under Loved on your Rankings tab.

    1. One tap, one heartLoved films get their own filter on your profile's Rankings tab, separate from how they scored, and the film page shows the percentage who loved it.
    2. Any timeTap the heart on the result screen, or later from the film's page, where it replaces the watchlist button once a film is ranked.
  5. Rankingsin your profile

    Your rankings grow.

Every film you survive, in order, with its score. Re-rank any film later and it moves; the numbers come from the order, so they move with it.

    1. Read it backYour Rankings tab is the list, with All rankings, Loved and Recently ranked views; the Taste tab is what the list says about you, and Show your Bloodwork tells it as a story.
    2. Keep the flame litOne rank a week keeps your streak alive, and it freezes for three days if you slip.
  6. Friendsin the feed

Then see what scared everyone else.

Every rank can be a post, unless you put it in Stealth mode. Follow friends, tag who you watched with, argue in the comments, and settle it on the leaderboard.

    1. Follow and tagFind friends from your contacts (only hashes leave your phone), search under Horror fans, or scan a profile code in person.
    2. Two boardsFilms by average scare, Fans by films watched. The top three wear gold, silver and bronze.

The scare score and the heart, side by side.

One ranked axis and one bit. Here is what each one measures and what it does not.

Scare score

The question
Which was scarier?
What it measures
How frightening it was to you: dread, jolts, disgust, the thing you thought about in the dark after.
What it ignores
Whether it was any good. A clumsy film can terrify you. That is allowed.
Where it shows
Your rankings, your posts, the Community Scare on every film page, the Films leaderboard, your Scare Tolerance.

Loved it

The question
Did you love it?
What it measures
One bit: yes or not yet. Not a score, not a ranked list, no comparisons.
What it ignores
How scary it was. A comedy can be loved and sit at the bottom of your skulls.
Where it shows
The Loved filter on your Rankings tab, the heart on the film page, and the percentage who loved it under the Community Scare.

Questions people ask

How many comparisons does one film take?

A handful. The film is only compared against films you gave the same answer, and each head-to-head narrows where it can land, so even a long list places a new film in a few taps. Gasper needs five ranked films before it shows numbers, and says how many more to rank until then.

Can I change my mind later?

Yes. Tap Ranked on the film's page and choose Re-rank head-to-head. New comparisons move it, and its scare score updates with the order. You can heart or un-heart a film any time too.

Do my rankings change the community number?

Only as an anonymous aggregate. The Community Scare on a film's page is the average of everyone who ranked it. A rank in Stealth mode still counts toward it; only the feed post is hidden.

What about films that are not scary but great?

That is what the heart is for. Give the film its honest scare score, then tap Loved this? It is marked as loved, separate from how it scored.

Does it work for TV series?

No. Gasper is a horror film logger, and the catalog is films.
