Stealth mode and privacy.
Stealth mode on any rank, a private account that approves followers, and blocking that tells no one.
- Stealth mode, film by film
- Private account approves followers
- Blocked accounts are not told

What it looks like.
Anything to remember? with Stealth mode: Hide this activity from the feed.

How it works, in three steps.
- 1Turn on Stealth modePer rank, in the details card. It hides that activity from the feed.
- 2Turn on Private accountNew followers must be approved before they see anything.
- 3Block or report when neededBlocking is silent. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours.
You should be able to rank a film at 2 a.m. without anyone knowing. Gasper's privacy controls are built for that: any rank can go into Stealth mode, your account can require approval for new followers, and you can block anyone without them being told. Underneath, the app sends as little as it can get away with.
Stealth mode, film by film
Every rank can be posted to the feed or kept off it. The switch is in the "Anything to remember?" card while you rank: "Stealth mode", with the line "Hide this activity from the feed". Turn it on and that rank never reaches your followers' feeds or Trending. The sheet that explains it is titled "Who sees this".
The choice is per rank, so you can keep most of your rankings quiet and surface only the ones you want to talk about. The glossary entry on Stealth mode is the short version. A stealth rank still counts as a rank: the film is in your list, has a scare score, and feeds the Community Scare only as part of an anonymous average, which no one can trace back to you.
Your watchlist has a similar control. "Want to watch with" tags the people you plan to watch with, and "Edit who can see" sets who sees that you want to watch it.
Private account
Turn on "Private account" in Settings and new followers must be approved by you before they can see anything. People who already follow you keep following. A request shows as "Requested" on their side until you answer, and ignoring one is a decision.
A private account is the right setting if your profile is for a small circle: a film club, a group chat, your partner. It is also the right setting if you rank with a review and would rather the review stay among friends. Combined with Stealth mode, you get two layers: who can follow, and what followers see in their feed.
Block and report
Block any account from its page and you no longer see each other on Gasper. The blocked account is not told. There is no notification, no changed state they can see, nothing to argue about. Blocking is silent on purpose, because the alternative is a conversation nobody wants. Settings keeps a list of "Blocked accounts" so you can undo it.
Report any post, review, comment, list or profile from its own menu. The reasons are plain: Spam; Harassment or bullying; Hate speech or symbols; Nudity or sexual content; Violence or threats; Impersonation; Something else. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours. Blocking is not reporting: if an account should be looked at, report it, and you can do both. The help entry on block and report has the steps and what happens afterward.
What leaves your phone
Very little. Contact matching sends only SHA-256 hashes of the emails and phone numbers in your address book, never the contacts themselves, and you can revoke access in iOS Settings at any time. Signing up sends no email; password recovery works by a code. Analytics are a small set of product events and crash reports, which go through PostHog; the few emails Gasper sends go through Resend; the backend runs on Supabase. There are no ads and no selling of data.
Deleting your account from Settings erases rankings, follows, comments and likes, and cannot be undone. The privacy policy has the formal version, and the help entry on deleting your account has the steps.
What it does not do
Stealth mode does not hide a film from your own profile. Anyone who can see your profile can see your rankings there; Stealth mode is about the feed, not about the profile page. To restrict the profile itself, use Private account.
Private account does not retroactively remove followers. It gates new ones.
Blocking does not report. Reporting does not block. They are two tools, and the right response to a bad actor is often both.
And there is no way to rank a film without it counting toward the Community Scare, because the average is anonymous and the whole point of the number is that everyone's honest ranking is in it. What you control is who sees the post, who follows you and who can reach you. For how a feed post looks to a follower, read feed and friends; for the short answer, keep rankings private.
Questions people ask us.
What does Stealth mode do?
It hides that rank from the feed. The film is still in your rankings with its scare score, and the Community Scare still takes your score into its anonymous average.
Is a blocked person told?
No. Blocking is silent.
What leaves my phone when I find friends from contacts?
Only SHA-256 hashes of emails and phone numbers. Raw contacts never leave the device.
Does a stealth rank still count toward the Community Scare?
Yes, as part of the anonymous average. Stealth mode controls the feed, not whether the film was ranked.
Works well with these.
