What if I loved a film that is not scary?

Heart it. On Gasper, loving a film is separate from how scary it scored. Loved films get their own filter on your profile's Rankings tab, independent of the scare score

Heart it. Just because you did not find a film scary does not mean it was not good, and saying otherwise is a disservice to the Scary Movie franchise. Loved films get their own filter on your profile, separate from how they scored. Tap the heart while ranking, or any time from the film's page.

The details

Gasper keeps two separate things about every film you rank, and they are allowed to disagree. The scare score says how much it frightened you. The heart says you love it. A film can be low on skulls and hearted, which describes Shaun of the Dead (2004) for most people, and it can be high on skulls and not hearted at all, which describes a lot of films that work and are no fun.

The heart changes no score. It does not nudge the scare score, and it does not change anything in a head-to-head. What it does is put the film under the "Loved" filter of your Rankings tab, headed "Loved films", and count it toward the percentage who loved it on the film's page, next to the Community Scare. You can tap it on the result screen after ranking ("Loved this?"), in the details card, or any time from the film's page, where the heart takes the place of the watchlist button once a film is ranked.

When to use it

Use it freely, and use it honestly. Comfort watches, the film that got you into horror, the one you quote, the one you put on when you cannot decide. The heart is for affection, and affection is not the same as fear. A horror list with an honest set of loved films tells a friend more about you than a top ten does.

If a film is both scary and loved, do both: rank it high in the head-to-heads and tap the heart. The two are independent. The Loved filter is not a ranked list; it is simply the films you hearted.

The glossary entry on loved is the short definition. The Loved it heart covers the heart in full, and the scare score covers the skulls.
