Watchlist: the films you mean to watch, on Gasper

Watchlistnoun

A watchlist on Gasper is your list of horror films you intend to watch, including unreleased ones, one of the two shelves on the Rank tab.

The watchlist is the queue: every horror film you mean to get to. On Gasper it is also the shortest route to ranking, because the Rank tab has a "Watchlist" shelf so you can pick straight from it instead of searching.

What it holds

Anything in the catalog, which comes from TMDb and covers horror films. That includes films that have not been released yet: their page says "Not released yet", the Rank button is dimmed, and "Add to Watchlist" is the thing to do instead. What it cannot do is rank an unreleased film: your rankings are for things you have watched, and the head-to-heads would make no sense otherwise.

The watchlist is personal, but it is not secret by default. The feed shows your friends what you ranked and what you want to watch, as a post that reads "wants to watch". You can tag who you "Want to watch with", and "Edit who can see" sets who sees it. A private account needs follower approval before anyone new sees anything.

Why a horror-only watchlist helps

A general film queue fills up with everything. A horror queue has shape. You can see that it is heavy on slashers and light on ghost stories, that you have been putting off a long one, or that three of your friends want to watch the same new release. Lists on Gasper are the collaborative version of this: a watchlist is yours, a list can be built with friends.

The watchlist also feeds back into discovery. Subgenre shelves, "New this season", "Upcoming" and "International horror" are the browse paths that fill it, and the daily pick, drawn from what you ranked and what other members ranked alongside the same films, is a good candidate for it when you are not ready to watch tonight.

In Gasper

Open a film and add it to your watchlist from its page, where you can also play the trailer and see where to watch it. When you are ready, open the Rank tab and choose it from the Watchlist shelf. Ranking it asks how scary it was, runs a short set of head-to-heads, and gives it a spot in your list with a scare score, plus a heart if you loved it. Gasper does not import a watchlist from any other service, so it is built by hand.

Questions people ask

Can I add a film that is not out yet?

Yes. Unreleased films can go on your watchlist; their page says Not released yet and offers Add to Watchlist. You cannot rank them until they are out.

Do my friends see my watchlist?

The feed shows what friends want to watch alongside what they ranked, subject to who you let see each one and to your account settings.

Does a film leave my watchlist when I rank it?

Ranking is how a watchlist film graduates. Once it is in your rankings, the heart takes the place of the watchlist button on its page.

Rank what scared you.

Free on the App Store. Log a film tonight, answer which was scarier, and watch your rankings take shape.
