Deepest Cut: the film in your rankings the fewest others have ranked
Deepest Cutnoun
Your Deepest Cut is the horror film in your rankings that the fewest other Gasper members have ranked, shown on your Taste tab and in your Bloodwork.
Your Deepest Cut is the film in your rankings that the fewest other Gasper members have ranked, and often that number is zero. It is the digger's mark: proof you went somewhere the crowd has not.
In music, a deep cut is the album track nobody plays on the radio. Horror has always had the equivalent, the regional slasher that only played drive-ins, the Italian cash-in with four titles, the Hong Kong ghost comedy that never got a Western release. Horror fandom rewards digging more than most genres do, because the genre has always been cheap to make and easy to lose.
How it is found
Gasper checks each film you ranked against the number of members who ranked it, and picks the one with the smallest count. If that count is one, and the one is you, the Bloodwork slide says so: the only one on Gasper who has ranked it. The moment more members rank the same film, the title can pass to another film if you have a rarer one.
That makes the Deepest Cut the only stat on Gasper that gets harder to keep as the community grows. On a thin catalog corner it will last; on a well-known film it will not.
Why it matters
Scores from comparisons work best when many people have ranked the same films, so most of Gasper is about overlap: the Community Scare, Scare Tolerance, your Hottest Take. The Deepest Cut is the opposite, a nod to the part of being a fan that is not about agreement or disagreement but about going first. It pairs naturally with the "NEW DIRECTOR" and "NEW SUB-GENRE" cards that follow a rank, which reward the same instinct.
In Gasper
Deepest Cut lives on the Taste tab of your profile among your fear stats, and in your Bloodwork. The film itself is just a normal entry in your list, with a scare score placed by head-to-heads like any other. Film data for even the most obscure title comes from TMDb, so whether a film can be a Deepest Cut depends first on whether it is in TMDb at all. If it is missing there, support@gasperapp.com can point you to how TMDb takes additions.
