On this page
Not until it is out. An unreleased film's page says "Not released yet", the Rank button is dimmed, and "Add to Watchlist" is the thing to do instead. When the date passes, the Rank button wakes up.
The details
Search any upcoming horror film and its page is there: poster, credits, trailer if one exists, and a release date from TMDb. Add it to your watchlist. On the Rank tab, a film that is not out yet shows "Not out yet" and cannot be picked. When the date passes, the Rank button unlocks and the film goes through the usual head-to-heads.
The reason is the Community Scare. Every film page shows the average scare score of everyone who ranked it, and that number only means something if everyone who ranked the film had seen it. Opening ranking before release would fill the average with guesses, and a guess is not a flinch.
Festival screenings and previews are the edge case. If you saw a film months before its general release, you may have to wait to rank it. Keep it on the watchlist, and when the day comes, your head-to-heads will be fresher than everyone else's.
Tips
The watchlist is one of the two shelves on the Rank tab, so a film you added in April is one tap away in October. Discover has "Upcoming" and "Releasing today" shelves, and new releases appear under "New this season" once they are out, which is a good place to check what just arrived. If you follow people, their watchlist additions show in your feed as "wants to watch", so an upcoming film your friends are waiting for is hard to miss.
